According to the process, it is divided into color cartons and kraft cartons (also known as yellow boxes). Color cartons need beautiful face paper printed by the color printing machine, and then they are bonded with the corrugated paper by the veneering machine, and then they are processed into semi-finished products by die cutting or slotting in the next step. Finally, the cartons are bonded by glue, which is also called adhesive cartons, metal nail cartons, which is simply called nail cartons, and finally packed into finished products.

By type, it can be divided into counterpart box, aircraft box, drawer box, gift box, heaven and earth cover and other types, which are used in different industries and needs.

According to the raw materials, it can be distinguished according to the corrugated shape of the corrugated board. The corrugated board is mainly divided into four types: A, B, C and E. Generally speaking, cartons used for outer packaging mainly use a, B and C-shaped cardboard; B and e ridge type shall be adopted for medium packaging; E-board is often used for small packages.

According to the number of material layers, 3 and 5 layers are common.

According to the combination, the common three layers are C, B and e. from thick to thin, the thinner the same material, the harder and the higher the strength. Commonly used in the five layers are BC ridge and be ridge. The former is thick with good cushioning but relatively soft, and the latter is thin but hard with high strength, which are used for different needs.
